Former General Mills Creative Chief Signals Media Industry is the Next Frontier for Marketing Innovation
New York – October 3, 2019. Award-winning media agency Assembly has named Michael Fanuele as President, effective immediately. Fanuele was brought on to accelerate how Assembly works to amplify clients’ marketing impact through bold media ideas. He will help lead the agency and the broader MDC Media Partners network to deepen its well of technology, talent and data-driven solutions, while managing Assembly’s strategy, planning, analytics and content development teams. Fanuele reports directly to CEO Michael Bassik.
“Michael draws on his unique and rare ability to think like a client and engage like a creative, to inspire us to be a better media agency – not just one that manages media plans, but one that helps our clients find new growth,” said Bassik. “Assembly has a right to lead because we don’t stop at finding the truth in data, we unleash the power of technology and bring more creativity to the heart of the media business. We have the unfair advantage of attracting leaders like Michael to help propel our agency and our clients into the future.”
An accomplished and award-winning marketing strategist, Fanuele most recently served as Chief Creative Officer at General Mills. Prior to going client-side, Fanuele held Chief Strategy Officer positions at Havas and JWT in New York and Fallon in Minneapolis. Across his career, he has worked on countless campaigns, from Dos Equis’ “Most Interesting Man in the World” to Cheerios’ “Good Goes Around” anthem, in addition to working across categories on Arby’s, Cadillac, Charles Schwab, Unilever, The Cosmopolitan, The Economist and Volvo.
A recognized thought leader, Fanuele’s new book, “Stop Making Sense: The Art of Inspiring Anybody” tackles the most powerful force in the world: inspiration.
Fanuele joins Assembly’s leadership team following a string of new appointments that include the additions of Scott Stedman as Chief Marketing Officer, Ashley Stewart as Chief Communications Officer, and Matt Speiser as General Counsel and Chief of Staff.
Fanuele has also been named to Assembly’s Agency Advisory Board that is led by agency Chairman Steve Farella, along with Facebook’s Director of the Global Deal Desk Aaron Radin and former Publicis executive Natalie Monbiot, a leading expert in emerging media.
“Media is the greatest untapped force in modern marketing. It’s where data and science should go to be useful – and yet, too much media is still in the business of pushing noise at an otherwise-engaged world,” said Fanuele. “I’m wildly impressed by Assembly’s stellar team, its technology and knack for making media that moves people, and I’m stoked to partner with the most ambitious clients and ad agencies around to prove that media works best when it’s as creative as creative.”
